First Phase Custom Backyard Wood Shed: Base

Shed Platform I decided to build a custom shed rather than a home store shed for two fundamental reason: Nothing truly fit my needs and I thought they were over priced - too big, too small or shaped wrong. At least with a DIY shed, it can be what I want to serve my storage needs and I don't have to pay for it all at once. However, I started it during the hottest and wettest months of the year here in Florida: July-August.

Shed parts tarpedI got tired of tarping my work everyday and pulling the tarps back over my project during every rain. So I put off working on it for awhile. Then those annual payment things came up in the Fall, then the Holidays, so the shed project went into a major delay, with the plaform done and framing for the walls assembled and tarped against the house wall. Still much to do...

Second Phase Custom Backyard Wood Shed: Walls

Shed Walls I finally got back to the shed project in Jan. 2019. With some help from a friend, we got up the frame walls. It took much less time that I had expected and planned for, so we went ahead with fastening the siding on the shed. I had screwed some wood strips on the base to rest the panels while we fastened them in place but a couple of panels did not fit well in spite of our efforts. I'll have to fix that eventually.
Shed Tarped As part of the base build, I had made the roof rafters as trusses with gussets. They were pretty light weight so I set those alone. Eventually, I got the roof support grid work done so I could tarp over the roof ... but not before it got rained on twice. Once I got that far, I began to plan the next phases, doors, windows, sealer, etc. However, it got delayed again ... I got interested in building radio antennas and messing with all that.

Shed Tarped
You can see the antenna pole in the last image if you look carefully. It's attached to the peak of the end of the house. Of course that also required building a brace to secure it to the house ... but that's another story. Click on the link above for the videos on the shed build playlist.
